My Heart Beats Like a Drum is inspired by rhythms of life; from the seasons of the sun, to the beating of our hearts. Rhythm manifests as patterns and routines, cycles and segmentations of time and space around us.

The rhythm is sequenced by interacting with tactile buttons. Each button illuminates in sequence, and plays a beat if the user has toggled it on. Vibration speakers resonate through the portable box, enabling users to feel the sound through different parts of their body.

The device can send triggers to other audio/visual equipment and software in order to amplify the experience through use of spatial audio, projected visuals, lights, synthesizers and other electronic music equipment.

My Heart Beats Like a Drum was designed, and refined through a Youth Music Initiative funded residency with Soundplay Projects, and series of a audio visual therapy and play sessions held in schools and art galleries across Scotland.

Thanks to funded Youth Music Initiative and provided mentorship, training, and access to wood and electronics workshops.
